Very enjoyable trip down memory lane for those of us lucky enough to have experienced this powerhouse band in their heyday. Before I ever got high on anything else I got high dancing in a dark frat room making trails with two lit cigarettes to "Starship". Now I understand the roots of the band and what happended to them much better. Wish the book was longer!Product details

i grew up in Ann Arbor in the 60's and 70's,
i saw the MC5 a few times and used to see
the band members around town, this is a great read!
I like this book - really takes you back to the days of the "revolution" - could maybe have a had a little more analysis of the music, but it's a very good work on a band whose candle burned brightly and quickly.
I would have liked a little more info about what tracks are from what show (or from the back-up recordings in the empty hall) but overall this is an excellent read about a great band and a great album. It gives a great overview of the band and their storied career, and it comes from a guy who was blown away by them live before the album came out. A good balance of personal narrative and factual history.
Not only is this book dedicated to how one of the greatest live albums was recorded, it also plays a part in telling the story of a band who were far ahead of their time and whose lifespan was too short. Insightful, addictive, and never boring, this is the definitive book on the MC5 and a great addition in the 33 1/3 series.
