A call to the unconverted to turn and live Richard Baxter 9781172319558 Books
Richard Baxter dogmatically insists that the Scriptures teach that 'Few Will Be Saved',that is relatively few out of the mass of humanity that have ever lived.Baxter goes even further, than some, perhaps many in our day would-"...that the greatest part even of those that are called will be everlastingly shut out of the Kingdom of Heaven." Why will so many be lost? What are some of the reasons for the evil which abounds? Who is to blame? The author reasons that Satan is one of the causes(some put most or all of the blame on Satan)but the godly Pastor correctly concludes-"He does not force men to sin,but tempts them to it...".Ultimately,the blame for evil must be attributed to 'To Those Who Do Evil Things'.In the chapter 'Objections To One's Need To Be Converted' Baxter responds to some of the common arguments that would be given in mid 17th century England.Over three and a half centuries later, these objections and the Puritan Pastor's response to them remain useful to this present generation. The fourth objection deals with 'Religious Hypocrite's ;the godly Minister's response-"Whatever hypocrites are,it is not so with those that are sanctified.God has thousands and ten thousands that are otherwise...".Another common objection back then, which still strongly applies today,is the unbeliever pointing to gross outward sin(that they see in others)and saying that they are not guilty of that level of wickedness-Mr.Baxter brings this Biblical perspective to that objection, that it is also great wickedness in God's sight-"...for a man to have an earthly mind, and love the world above God,and to have an unbelieving,un-humbled heart." This would be descriptive of a great multitude, living today, and if they are not converted, they will incur the wrath and judgement of Almighty God.
In another chapter Richard Baxter endeavors to convince the reader that 'God Takes Pleasure In Men's Conversion',one of the persuasive arguments that he brings is,that if this were not so-"...he would not have so frequently commanded you in His Word to turn." The Puritans were compelled by their love for God and for their fellow man,to earnestly plead with them to 'Turn And Live'.We should follow their excellent example,in this,as they follow our Lord's command to plead and reason with the lost,to turn from serving the idols of their hearts and to worship and serve 'The King Of Kings And Lord Of Lord's',who alone is worthy to be praised and worshipped,by those who were made in His image.
Richard Baxter's 'A Call To The Unconverted' is one of the Evangelistic Puritan works that was greatly used of the Lord,in this godly Pastor's generation and is still relevant and needed centuries after his departure from this world.May our Lord be pleased to continue to use it,to call those from serving themselves and this sinful world, and serve the 'One True Living God'.

A call to the unconverted to turn and live Richard Baxter 9781172319558 Books Reviews
What a great book! Heart breaking and heart stirring!! Lord, help me to be so much more passionate and concerned about eternal welfare... Give me a love for people that offers You and You alone as remedy 💜
The content of this book is excellent, but the. typography in this edition (the Sovereign Grace Publishers edition) is very hard to read. The Resurrected Books edition (also sold by at A CALL to the UNCONVERTED, TO TURN and LIVE And accept of MERCY, while MERCY may be had; as ever they will find MERCY, in the Day of their EXTREMITY from the Living God.) is MUCH easier to read.
Good Words to stir up a proper mindset on living in the Word of God. Too often, we allow the world to dictate to us how to live and what we can and cannot think. Instead, we need to see our lives from God's perspective because that's all that matters.
Anything by Richard Baxter will bless you. This book is a sobering one the will help both the believer and unbeliever to think about eternity.
If you want a stark contrast between todays' evangelism & the puritan's evangelism , read this. Todays evangelism , the way it is presented , is far from what evangelism was under the great revivals in the past. Todays evangelists are in control of (as it were) God & when a sinner gets saved. Today we have legalism presented as salvation & strong leaders passing off the false gospel as the true. These men, puritans, were on their faces & knees before they ever entered the task of preaching ,sometimes all night. No wonder that God moved sinners to tremble & grip pews with white knuckles. God was being glorified. Today is a 'man- centered gospel. Jesus isn't the cute little baby on Mary's lap. He's the lion of the tribe of Judah. He's not begging sinners to 'accept' or 'ask Him into their hearts' !!! He Demands repentance! Acts 1730. There is even a limit to Gods' patience beyond which people may not go. Jesus said in John 7 "you will seek me & shall not find me", & "you will seek me & die in your sins". Richard Baxter is excellent as is Joseph Alleine- "an alarm to the unconverted". Be prepared to be alarmed.

The content of this book is awesome, but the typeset is terrible. The pages do not consist of full sentences across the page, instead there is a full sentence followed by a 1/3 sentence, another full sentence followed by a 1/3 of a sentence. After trying to read this for 30 minutes I had a serious headache and my eyes burned.
There is a kindle version which costs $1.99; it has a statue and a building on the cover. I highly recommend that version, the type is properly done and is easy on the eyes. Well worth $1.00 extra.
Wow, Richard Baxter pulls no punches in this book! He's hard-hitting and sticks with the literal interpretation of the Bible as he tells precisely what the Bible says about Salvation and how to reach it. If you're looking for the feel-good Antinonianism approach of "you can sin all you want and live any way you want as long as you believe," this isn't it but if you truly are searching for God and want to know how to be saved and what to expect from God and what God expects from a disciple, you'll find the answers here. Content wise, this is a 5-star book. However, I gave it 4 stars because of the edition itself. The writing is TINY (and I have good eyesight). It's also a kind of bold print so between that and how tiny the print is, it's not the easiest book to read.
